Trip to Uganda

Following an intense selection process, Hannah Fisher, has been successful in securing a place through Girlguiding Anglia on a volunteering trip to Uganda in August.Fifteen year old Hannah, a member of the 1st Gayton Rangers, is thrilled to have been picked from Rangers throughout the region at a recent selection weekend at the Guide Centre in London.

Ranger Leader Helen Reed said: “We are very proud of Hannah, and know she will have a lot to give to the project. All the Gayton Guiding units will support her fund-raising and collecting items for the children there, some of whom are girl Guides”.

The trip is in conjunction with a charity called Watering Roots, who aim to help the community in Busembatia and also encourage leadership skills in the volunteers.

Hannah, a year 11 pupil at the King’s Lynn Academy, would like to become a teacher in future. She had hoped to do some volunteering work abroad with children in the future, but never anticipated the opportunity coming so soon. She said “It still seems like a dream. I see documentaries of people on TV doing this sort of thing, but soon it will actually be me!”

The first fund-raiser is a Fashion Show on May 5th at King’s Lynn Academy, tickets £2 (adv. Or £3 on the night) for fashions from many High St. retailers at much reduced prices. Come along and see, try and buy on the night.
