LOCAL POLICE FORCE TARGET PROBLEMS MEET PEOPLE IDENTIFY PROBLEM AREAS

REPORT BACK ON ACTION REGULAR MEETINGS

GET TO KNOW COMMUNITY AIR VIEWS AND OPINIONS FEEDBACK

Our local Police have introduced a Safer Neighbourhood Team, which is based in Dersingham.

Their aim is to encourage all members of the community within the area to attend regular meetings, or ‘surgeries’, when there will be the opportunity to air views, voice comments, point out areas of concern in our villages.

Once problems have been identified the Police can take the necessary action and can provide updates on the situation at the next meeting. There may be occasions when no actions by the Police are required but the chance to meet the team and talk with them face to face would be beneficial both to them and the community.

SHOPPERS REMINDED OF PURSE DIPPING ADVICE – KING’S LYNN

Police in King’s Lynn are reminding shoppers to take all necessary precautions to guard against purse theft in the town centre. The warning comes following an increase in reports of ‘purse dippings’ at shops in the town during the past week. Town centre police and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) are working closely with local retailers, security staff and CCTV operators to identify and target offenders.

Purse dipping thieves often operate by bumping into or brushing up closely to the victim, giving them the opportunity to slip their hand into an open bag or handbag. To guard against purse thieves, shoppers are reminded to:

Keep your bag closed and close to you at all times, if possible with the opening towards your body. Close your purse and put it away before you leave the till. Try not to overload yourself with bags and coats. Avoid carrying your purse or wallet in a back trouser pocket. Keep cash secure and out of sight. Do not leave your handbag, push chair or shopping trolley unattended for any length of time.

Purse alarms, which link your purse to your handbag and alert you if your purse is being stolen, are available to buy from your local police station.

Calling All Volunteers...

If you and other members of the community think that speeding traffic has a dangerous or negative social impact on your area, then involve your local Council as their support will be vital. If it appears that there are others who would like to volunteer to take an active role in speed monitoring, then forming a group is a good next step - maybe there are other small parish councils nearby with similar issues you could link into, making a geographical connection to a common purpose?

For a more detailed look into this volunteer role please view the booklet below

SPEEDWATCH...

We have carried out speed checks, both outside the school and also in Grimston Road. The speeds recorded have not been excessive in the main, with most drivers adhering to the limits. This of course is partly down to other drivers warning them about the checks as they approach. We have stopped drivers who were above the limits in the region of 34mph or 35mph and advised them, and I have also issued fixed penalty notices too. I also know that road policing from Swaffham have carried out checks.

Speedwatch is now about to be rolled out in the county and I understand from Mr Alister Beales that Gayton are keen to be part of this programme.

GRAFFITI ...

Recently two lots of graffiti have appeared in Gayton, in the bus shelter opposite The Crown PH, and in Springvale. We carried out enquiries into both of these, but were unable to trace the offenders. The Borough council cleaned the bus shelter and Longhurst Housing Springvale. Please can I ask that if residents find damage that they make the relevant authorities aware so it can be dealt with quickly before further damage is caused.

PATROLS...

The team carries out regular foot patrols in the village at varying times and this has received very positive feedback from the people we meet. The speed checks have also been welcomed, except of course by those who are stopped.
